Ovarian & Uterine Health

Flax has been around for centuries and is believed to have great health benefits. In recent years, scientific studies have begun to prove just how unparalleled these health benefits are. Many of these discoveries have shown promise for improving the health of women throughout their lifespan. Some of the most advanced research on the benefits of flax for women’s health is related to the ability of lignans (from the hull of the flaxseed) to balance hormones.

When left unchecked, unbalanced hormones significantly impact a woman’s ovarian and uterine health, and can cause debilitating symptoms such as PMS, cysts, chronic pain, and mood swings. Unbalanced hormones can also lead to infertility and cancer. Studies show that lignans can help both premenopausal and postmenopausal women live healthier, more comfortable lives.

Lignans are phytoestrogens, a naturally occurring compound in plants. When consumed, phytoestrogens mimic the body’s own estrogen and can be used as a natural hormone replacement therapy. Through the regular consumption of flax hull lignans, women with low estrogen will experience a boost in their estrogen levels. Women with high levels of estrogen can also benefit from consuming flax hull lignans. Lignans compete with excess estrogen, which is then flushed from the body to restore normal estrogen levels.

Though most lignans research has focused on breast health and breast cancer, studies related to ovarian and uterine health have shown great promise. For example, BMC Women’s Health conducted a population-based control study and concluded phytoestrogens like those found in organic flax might decrease a woman’s risk of ovarian cancer. While more research will be beneficial, there is overwhelming support that non-GMO flax hull lignans are beneficial to women’s health.

Benefits of lignans for women’s health include:

  • Improved general health and natural immune system booster

  • Menopause relief

  • Reduced risk from conventional hormone replacement treatment

  • Decreased PMS symptoms

  • Improved breast health

  • Better reproductive health, including ovaries and uterus health

  • Increased presence of antioxidants throughout the body

  • Prevention and reduction of breast cancer
