High Blood Pressure

Flaxseed and lignans have shown promise in lowering high blood pressure. A study conducted by the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis, found lignan flax to decrease bad cholesterol by as much as 20%. Further supporting these results is a Canadian study suggesting flaxseed is capable of inducing “one of the most potent antihypertensive effects achieved by a dietary intervention.”

Supporting this idea is a study conducted by St. Boniface Hospital Research Center in Canada, which found that flaxseed can help drop blood pressure significantly in patients with peripheral artery disease. Beyond high blood pressure and its related illnesses, lignans have been beneficial in improving general health, reducing risks for certain cancers, and as an immune system booster.
